Black Mountain College was a small school in rural North Carolina,
which during its brief time from 1933-1958 changed the course of culture
in America. It had fewer than 1200 students, and only 60 graduates.
The alumni include Robert Rauschenberg, Elaine de Kooning, Cy
Twombly, Vera Williams, and Robert De Niro Sr. to name a few. The
faculty included the likes of Joseph and Anni Albers, John Cage, Charles
Olsen, and Buckminster Fuller. Albert Einstein and Langston Hughes
gave guest lectures in the summers. This shirt is meant to commemorate the arts, those who pursue the, and the independent spirit that led the students and faculty of Black Mountain College to call themselves, and become Fully Awake.
